To potential members, History Book Club offers quite an extensive assortment of best selling history books (mostly hardcover editions) spanning a wide range of topics including American and European history, World War I and World War II, Civil War, World history, Ancient history and so on.
If you've ever wanted to know more about ancient worlds, lost cities, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, Mayas... look no further; HBC is just the place for you. Or, perhaps you are more interested in medieval times, the Crusades, knights and medieval kings. Some might have a thing for early modern history, be it American Revolution or Napoleonic era. Modern history (1800 - present), however, is the most popular and most populated subject: learn about the defining moments of the American Civil War and the people who had put their mark on it, on both sides; find out about the great battles of World War I, catch up on the major events of World War II, discover lesser known facts about American involvement in Vietnam and other important events up to this day.
An especial mention deserves the club's Biography section: there you'll find tens, even hundreds of books on such historical figures as Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Lucrezia Borgia, Henry VIII, Joan of Arc, George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Billy the Kid, FDR, Stalin, Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, Gandhi, Albert Einstein... to name just a few.
Not everything in HBC is about the past, though; the club also features the Contemporary section, a place where you can find musings on the world's current events, with a slight emphasis on the US's foreign policy and politics in general.
Members of History Book Club also have full access to books carried by other Booksonline clubs -- such as The Literary Guild Book Club or Science Fiction Book Club -- a good thing for those who wish to relax over an odd fiction bestseller every now and then.
